Sergeant Bernard Gilbert
Bernard Gilbert, was the 3rd child born to William and Flora Gilbert on August 25, 1944 in
Cleveland, Ohio. He answered the still quiet voice of his creator on January 5,
2024 at Barberton Citizens Hospital, where he lost the medical battle that he
fought a long time.
Bernard was welcomed home by his loving parents, William and Flora, and his
brothers Nathaniel and Harrison who preceded him in death.
He was educated in the Cleveland Ohio public school system. Bernard studied at
Akron Institute of Herzing University. He proudly served in the United States
Army, serving in the Vietnam War. Returning home to Cleveland, he was
successfully employed by the State of Ohio Department of Mental Health, where
he retired as an EMT. He later worked at Hilton, Holiday and Hampton Inn where
he worked on washers, dryers and computers, all of which he later used as a
hobby to help others.
He leaves to cherish many sweet memories, older brother, Herman (Jewell)
Gilbert. His one and only sister Dianna Gilbert. His two heartbeats, Latonya
(Minister Clayton) Johnson and Deohoplis Swain, and who he called the boss of
us all, Elijah Johnson. Nieces, Nadine and Deena Gilbert. Nephews, Herman
Darell, Dreke Battles, Darell Tyrone, and Artez Person. Goddaughters, Andreana
Richardson, Jameisa Carr, Marea Hatch, and Shautae Allen, and a host of other family
members and Friends.
