Legacy & Life of Claudette Grimes
Claudette Grimes went home to be with her loving Savior, Sunday, February 5, 2023. Claudette was born November 7, 1947 in Clinchco, Virginia to the late Daniel and Elsie Pope. She and her family moved to Akron, Ohio where she attended North High School. She went on to marry her late ex-husband Emory Grimes, Sr. having two children together Emory (Junebug) and Anthony (Tony). She worked many years in the restaurant industry as a cook, later to become a licensed Cosmetologist. Claudette later dated her loving sweetheart Willie King, baring her last son Michael. Claudette also adopted Marcus Jackson as her son, whom you could never tell her he wasn’t.
Claudette, while in Akron, began her christian walk under the guidance of amazing men and women of God. She gave her life to our Lord and Savior in the early 80’s while under Eld. Vincent at Holy Temple. She later went on to serve under many powerful Shepherds, honorable mention Apostle Epps, and her current pastor, Bishop Mayceo Smith, II at City of Joy LEC. Mom Grimes was truly an example of one who believed in the power of prayer and at any time you would be praying with and for her.
Claudette was well known in Akron, Ohio. From fearlessly riding the streets on her motorcycle, to styling the hair of every little girl who passed her way or whoever was rocking the latest jerry curl! She was known by her special nieces and nephews as Aunt T, Granny by her grands and great grandchildren, Mom Grimes, to her church family and last by not least Mommy to her children. Mom Grimes showered her love on everyone she knew through words of wisdom and prayer. She would always find a way to get you to do whatever she wanted you to do, from taking something in the house to buying her oatmeal cookies. Many loved her peanut butter cookies, homemade rolls, pasta salad and peach cobbler in which she made during the holidays.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Daniel and Elsie Pope; grandparents; Tom and Evelyn Harrison; her son, Emory Grimes, Jr., sister, Evelyn Higginbottom-Pope; brother Tommie Pope; ex-husband Emory Grimes, Sr.; aunt and uncle Robert (Bessie) Curley; favorite cousin James Curley.
Survived to cherish her loving memory, her most treasured gifts from God are her two sons, Anthony (Anish) Grimes and Michael (Gwendolyn) Grimes; sisters Cassie (Selby) McGowen; Anna Calhoun- Neal; brothers, Danny Pope and Terry (Dionne) Pope. Special nieces Shelly (Reuben) Woodruff, Cassundra (Eran) Washington and Rochelle Powell; Special son Marcus (LaShawn) Jackson; daughter Amelia; honorable mention her home health aide Stephanie; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other family members and friends. God forbid we forget anyone, please charge it to our minds and not our hearts. To know her is to love her and she will deeply be missed by all who knew her. We thank you all for loving our mom, sister, grandma, aunt, cousin and friend!
