Dorothy A (Maston) Connelly

Dorothy A. (Maston) Connelly, 76, passed away on Friday, July 28, 2023, after a long illness.

She was born and raised in Long Island, New York, where she graduated from Mattituck High. Following graduation she moved to New York City to attend cosmetology school. In 1968, Dorothy and her family settled in Akron, Ohio.

Dorothy retired from Alpha Phi Alpha Homes Inc. after 30 years of dedicated service. During her retirement, she worked for Akron Public Schools, as a crossing guard, working until the time of her death. She was an avid New York Giants and New York Knicks Fan!!! Watching TV, especially sports, was her favorite thing to do!!! Sports would not be the same if she was NOT YELLING at the TV.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Cornelius and Rosalie Maston. She leaves to cherish her memory, her loving and devoted daughters; Sylvia (Al) Brown of Columbus, Ohio; Allyson (Darryl) Buckley of Cleveland, Ohio; and Kelly Johnson of Akron, Ohio. They were affectionately known as “Dottie and the Girls.” She was dearly beloved by her grandchildren, Courtney Brown, Janese Adams, Isaiah “Bud” Brown, Mikaela Johnson, Elijah Johnson, and Nya Buckley; her great-grandchildren who were the joyful noise of her life are Ivey Brown, McKenzie Carmichael, Courtney Madison Brown, Isaiah Brown, Jr.

 In addition, she is survived by her sister, Karen Maston of Akron, Ohio; nephew, Vincent Trent and niece Vanisha Trent; aunt, Mary Brown of Riverhead, New York; bestie cousin, Jeanie Bates-Long of Atlanta, Georgia; sister-in-law, Sylvia Hudson of Akron, Ohio; lifelong friends, David and Beaulah McDay of Akron, Ohio; and a host of other relatives and friends.
