A Time To Remember
Mrs. Joyce Ann Thompson, age 84, was born on July 8, 1938 in Dayton Ohio to the late Charles Emory and Florence Moon.
She was raised in a loving home by the late Earl and Eleanor Alexander in Massillon, Ohio. Joyce received Christ as her
personal Lord and Savior at an early age. After moving to Canton, Ohio she attended McKinley Senior High School. She worked in retail at Sears and Roebucks until she retired. Joyce met Bill Thompson at Hill’s Temple and they were married December 14, 1958. He was the love of her life and they
set up home in Akron, Ohio. From this union one daughter, Sharon Ann and one son, Ivan Christopher, were born.
She was a longstanding member of Hill’s Temple First Born Church of God
In Christ. She lived an exemplary life of strength and dignity. This Woman of God had many talents. She was an anointed
vocalist and music Coordinator. With this passion she created the Hill’s Temple “Voices of Praise.” Joyce also started the annual “Friends and Family Day,” “Community Day,” and Chaired the
Pastor’s Anniversaries. Other opportunities to serve were Head Deaconess, National Field Worker F.B.C., Church Secretary and
Trustee Ministry.
She was an avid traveler to numerous church conferences, trainings, and meetings. Joyce loved to shop and was always impeccably dressed, a true trendsetter. She was a natural born leader and had a knack at
fundraising for her events. Loving to see her family come together, she served as the Akron Chapter Green Family Reunion
President. Which also gave her another opportunity to shop and travel!
Siblings of Sister Thompson are Deborah (Michael) Snell of Canton Ohio, Michael C. Alexander of Elyria Ohio, Lorraine Freeman of Lawson Oklahoma, Ida Hollins-Hill of Columbus Ohio, Reselin Harrison of Cincinnati Ohio, and the late Randy C.
Alexander.
She leaves to cherish her memories, her son Ivan (Consuela) Thompson, and her son-in-law Kennard Woods, both of Akron Ohio.
A loving grandmother of six grandchildren Monty Thompson Sr., Giavonnie (Justin) Noel Lee, Jenee Woods, Trevontae
Thompson, Brian Thompson, and DeRon Guard. She was extremely proud of her six great grandchildren which are Monty
Thompson Jr, Brelynn Woods, Montana Thompson, Monroe Thompson, Montry Thompson, and Jayce Noel Lee.
Preceded in death is her husband Bill Thompson, her daughter Sharon Woods and her son Byron Hardy,. Joyce was loved by all who knew her, opening her heart and
home to many. Recognizing her Special Sons Eddie Jackson, Ricky Austin, Harvey Tuck, David Smoot, Darrin Fann and her
Goddaughters Hakela (Kelly) Clark, Tawanna Clark and Chandra Starks. Nephews that were near to her heart are Earl (Schade),
Timothy (April), Lerry (Mary) Crable and favorite cousins Wanda and Lois.
Anyone that had a chance to get to know Joyce knew her as a loving, caring and kindhearted person. She has so many
relatives and friends that will miss her deeply.
On March 1, 2023 at 1:30P.M. God Called His Servant,
Joyce Ann Thompson Home To Her Eternal Rest.
