Margaret "Jeanie" Townsend gained her heavenly wings on May 29, 2023. She was born August 28, 1943 to John and Amanda Manley in Clayton, AL. Her family moved to Akron when she was 4 years old. Margaret graduated in 1961 from South High School. She followed her calling and went on to graduate from Akron City Hospital Idabelle Firestone School of Nursing in 1966. Following graduation she started her career at Akron City Hospital where she served as a Registered Nurse for 38 years.
Margaret was known to be a quiet but a kind, fun-loving and big-hearted woman. Her soft spoken, nurturing soul warmed the hearts of everyone who encountered her. She loved taking care of her family, especially her grandbabies.
Margaret was an exceptional mother of three daughters. Melissa thinks that she was her favorite but we all know it was Tracy. She would offer great advice and make-up tips (LOL!). Education for her girls was very important. She stressed this to them all the time. This she passed along to her grandbabies, as well.
She loved music, roller skating and bowling. She wasn't afraid to try new things. She loved sweets especially Snickers bars and ice cream with potato chips. She loved Peabo Bryson. Once she met him in an airport and he kissed her cheek. She said she'd never wash her face again. Her favorite past time was reading. She loved books and shared that love with all her family. She was also a women of strong faith. She grew up attending church at Mount Zion Baptist Church. She later attended The House of the Lord in Akron. She was a super fan of Bishop T.D. Jakes.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, John and Amanda Manley; brothers Willie Manley and Reginald Manley; sisters Christine Esters and Roxanna Davis. She leaves behind many to cherish her treasured memory daughters: Regena (Richard) Treleaven (Kissimmee, FL), Tracy Townsend (Akron, OH), Melissa (Tommie) Griffin (Jonesboro, GA); grandchildren: JaVon Townsend, Marcus Townsend, Danasia Long, Darian Long, Jamil Townsend, and Jamir Townsend; favorite ex-husband, Elwin Townsend and her favorite brother-in-law, Buddy Esters; sisters: Barbara Wilson-Coleman and Scharlene Hawthorne (Lowell), both of Akron; a host of neices and nephews and other family and close friends that she loved dearly.
She will truly be missed!
