On April 13th 1972, the late Willie F. Jones and the late Evangelist Diane Peterson (Ma Pete) were gifted with the life of their beloved daughter Tammy Jones, affectionately known as “Slammy Tammy”. Not only were Tammy’s parents and family gifted with her presence, but anyone blessed to meet Tammy couldn’t help but be captivated by her beautiful smile.
As a lifetime resident of Akron, Ohio Tammy was an alumnus of Buchtel High School graduating in 1990. Tammy worked in the administrative and educational fields throughout her life and was previously employed by Emmanuel Christian Academy (Teacher’s Aide) and Emerge Ministries and Quicklink (Secretarial Clerk).
Tammy was birthed into the ministry and yielded her voice as an instrument of service in various Full Gospel Baptist Church Fellowship ministries and events including serving as the Minister of Music for Mount Liberty (Pastor Paul Mays), Worship Leader for Kingdom Grace Fellowship (Overseer Renea Collins ) the District, and state FGBCF), Christ is the Answer Ministries (J. Michael Martin) as well as faithful service to the “The Church Ministries” located in Akron Ohio (Pastor Lori A. Porter). Despite challenges in Tammy’s health she continued to worship as worship was her heart.
As a drummer Tammy served a great number of various musical groups and ministries including; St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church, Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, Mt. Liberty FGBCF, Fully Committed, Ephraim, Charles Woolfork, New Joshua and many more. She went on to expand her ministry to begin her solo career and released her first album entitled “Fulfilling the Purpose”, which changed the lives of everyone that came in contact with her ministry. Though her voice was a weapon in this life on Monday June 17th 2019 Tammy’s became an instrument of praise as she joined in heavens chorus.
Tammy is proceeded in death by her parents; Grandparents; Mattie Wheeler, George and Ruth Jones, Uncles; George “Sleepy” Jones, Jr. and Ronald Wheeler and cousin; Antwan Dash
She leaves to cherish her memory of her song; the love of her life, son, Jeremiah T. Buckley; father, Jerry Peterson; grandmother, Mary Peterson; brothers, Richard (Irma) Jones, Anthony Keys and Robert Wright; devoted and loving sister; Tracy (Deacon Ulysses) Williams; special sisters, Shandelia Young and Dasha Vinson; nieces, Shauntay Jones and Cierra Brooks; aunts, Frances Jones, Sharon Jones, Toni Dash, Michele “Sugar” Shady; uncles, Ali (Rosalyn) Jamal and Michael Wheeler; special cousins, Lavel (Pam) Jones; Godparents, MaDine, Deacon Michael and Overseer Renea Collins; Godchildren, Michaela Collins and DaeShon Martin; God sisters; Mercedes Beauford, Morgan and Aaliyah Wright; special God brother, J’Son Wilson and a host of spiritual siblings, cousins, relatives and friends.
Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday June 22nd 2019 at Mount Calvary Baptist Church 442 Bell St. Akron, Ohio. Viewing 9-11 am with service immediately following. Interment Mount Peace Cemetery.
