Olin Clay Jr. passed away peacefully on March 3, 2023. He was born October 26, 1947 in
Akron, Ohio to Olin and Annie Clay.
“Junior”, as he was affectionately known, worked at Firestone Tire and Rubber, Akron Public
Schools, and Akron Auto Auction. He spent years coaching football and track and field privately
and in schools. While serving as a coach at East and Central-Hower High Schools, he
dedicated himself to nurturing athletic programs which bore numerous NCAA Division I
scholarshipped athletes, NCAA Division I Conference Champions, NCAA Division I All-
American athletes, an Indoor USATF National Qualifier, and an Olympic Qualifier.
He is preceded in death by parents Olin and Annie Clay, brother Maurice McMiller, and sister
Ora Anderson. He leaves to mourn his passing sister Janie Wheeler of Lawrenceville, GA,
brother Johnny Clay of Akron, OH, brother Marvin Clay of Akron, OH, sister Patricia (Michael)
Jackson of Woodbridge, VA, sons Olin Clay III of Akron, OH, and Earl Duncan of Cleveland,
OH. His legacy also continues through his grandchildren, a myriad of nieces and nephews, and
countless faithful friends.
